CONFIRMATION – RESTORED kedd, Már 6 2012

This cabinet card features a young girl, dressed for Confirmation. She is accompanied with her relatives.

She is identified on the back, her name is Irene Katzber. The lady’s name is Mrs. Vas. We don’t know who the little gentleman is.

This photograph also needed some restoration: I can’t imagine why – maybe because it’s a long format cabinet card – someone folded it right at the faces.

This is what it looked like before restoration:

THE BEAUTIFUL FANNY hétfő, jan 16 2012

This long format cabinet card features a pretty young woman wearing a beautiful white dress with a small bouquet of roses.  Her name is Fanny Velics.

Although she is identified on the back of the card I wasn’t able to find any information about her.

The photo was taken by Ödön Uher (1859-1931) in Budapest. He was a royal court photographer. In 1912 he established a film studio which produced 24 films by 1918. In 1916 he opened a film laboratory as well.

His son, Ödön Uher jr. has become a cameraman and film director.

LADY MUSHROOM szerda, jan 11 2012

This CdV features Mrs. Mayer, mother of little Ilma, the cute baby from previous post.

She is wearing a huge mushroom shaped hat, those were in fashion around 1900.

The photograph is signed, stamped, partially cut and there are some holes in it because it was used as an ID picture for a skating club.

Photographer was also István Goszleth (Goszleth & Son Budapest).

MAD HATTERS szerda, dec 28 2011

This cabinet card – the first piece from my collection – features three women wearing very fancy headgears.

The photographer was J. H. Whitley in Elmira, New York. Whitley was in business since the Civil War era. Date of the photo is unknown but probably it was taken in the 1880s.
